Preschool (0- 5 years)
Preschool is for children age five and under. They are divided into groups after age and maturity. The children will participate in singing Swedish songs, playing Swedish games, reading picture books, listening to Swedish stories, and doing simple crafts. The program also includes a nature day and other special activities of Swedish character. A parent must accompany children in the younger classes, but in the oldest class for the 4 and 5 year olds, they are encouraged to participate without the parents.
The purpose of Preschool is to prepare and spark an interest in future studies of the Swedish language and develop a bond with Swedish culture. The goal is to provide a place where the Swedish language is spoken by both children and adults, so that their usage of Swedish is encouraged and allowed to grow. All classes are held in Swedish. Therefore, it is important that Swedish is spoken with the child at home, so that in class he or she is better able to understand and participate in the activities.
Preschool also serves an opportunity for parents of small children to meet over a snack, visit and exchange experiences.
